About Us

My nature experience began with my father LG Harrison encouraging my siblings and I to get outside and be active. Growing up in an urban environment in Omaha, Nebraska, it was always a passion of my father’s to see his children experience nature as he did growing up on a farm in rural Mississippi. At a young age, I remember being able to explore not only my yard, but the wooded areas of my neighborhood. True to his roots, my father brought home different types of animals for us to care for as well as taught us how to grow a variety of vegetables in our garden. We had a dog, but we also raised and showed chickens at the county fair in 4-H competitions where we took home blue ribbons. In addition to dogs and chickens, we raised rabbits, and a goat. Of all of the animals, my dad most enjoyed training thoroughbred horses, and he passed on that passion to mybrothers and I. These experiences kindled a fire in me, steering me towards a profession as a leader in the outdoor recreation parks environment. These memories that are vivid in mymind, compelled me to create similar memories for my children. Enjoying the great outdoors has cemented our family moment and has helped my children become lovers of the ocean, wilderness and wildlife.I also have learned that this exposure helps them in school by giving them creative memories to draw from when writing,and confidence in being able to identify wildlife they have seen. My hope is that this book can create the same passions in the present and next generations to further gain an appreciation for our planet.
